About me
I'm Sheila, and I can't wait to meet you.
With more than 20 years of experience in the field of social work, I bring my life experience to my work with children, adolescents, individuals, families, parents, and couples.
While raising three beautiful children with my amazing life partner, I understand that along with these joys of life, come challenges. I operate with the understanding that there is no recipe book that describes each unique parent and child relationship or the best approach from either perspective. The parent/child relationship is such a special one, and one that should be embraced as such; though any parent would know that with this precious relationship comes unexpected challenges, and most certainly surprises. With support and determination, there is hope that these surprises can be managed and overcome.
My parents immigrated to Canada in the 60’s and I was raised in a small city where racialized individuals were the minority. While trying to understand my roots and at the same time understanding myself in the context of my ancestral home country, comes a wealth of experience and understanding in navigating a sense of belonging, social identity, marginalization, inclusion, and diversity.
I am a registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Ontario College Social Workers and Social Service Workers and a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers. I provide virtual or phone based counselling and psychotherapy services to adults, youth and where appropriate, to children.
I thrive on supporting people to find a better way to cope in life that connects to their personal worldview. I operate using strategies grounded in solution-focused brief therapy, drawing on Adlerian and psychodynamic theories and using techniques of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I use a strengths based approach combined with an anti-oppressive, anti-racist framework.
I am committed to giving back to those in need, and offering my clinical services is one path to achieving this. In addition, I am dedicated to supporting women and children who have experienced violence, therefore, a financial donation will be made to this cause with every session.
